The Cinema Center in Centum city is always crowded with movie buffs.  Especially in early October every year, when the Busan International Film Festival is held, even foreign guests flock to the festival.  However, although there is APEC Naru Park and Suyeong River in front of the Cinema Center, you cannot walk directly there.  Because there is a four-lane road between the Busan Cinema Center and Naru Park.  How great would it be if the above-ground road here was changed to an underground road?

In this case, it will be transformed into a fantastic cultural space including the Busan Cinema Center, APEC Naru Park, Suyeonggang Riverside Trail, and Suyeonggang Human Bridge, which will be completed at the end of 2025.

Busan City has been trying to convert this road section into an underground road for about 10 years, but has not been able to start due to lack of budget.  Last month (March 13, 2024), Busan City announced that it would begin construction to convert the 420m above-ground road section in front of the Busan Cinema Center into an underground road.  

If all goes as planned, the area around the Busan Cinema Center will be reborn as the best cultural space in Busan by the end of 2026.  I'm already looking forward to that day.

영화의 전당 앞의 도로가 지하차도로 바뀐다면

영화의 전당에는 늘  영화광들로 붐빈다. 특히 매년 10월 초순, 부산국제 영화제가 열릴 때는 외국 손님들까지 몰려온다. 그런데 영화의 전당 앞에는 APEC나루공원과 수영강이 있지만 곧장 걸어갈 수가 없다. 왜냐하면, 영화의 전당과 나루공원 사이에 4차선 도로가 가로놓여 있다.  만약 이곳의 지상 도로가 지하도로로 바뀐다면 얼마나 좋을까? 

이럴 경우, 영화의 전당과 APEC나루공원, 그리고 수영강 강변 산책로, 2025년 말 준공될 수영강 휴먼브릿지까지 포함하여 환상적인 문화공간으로 바뀌기 때문이다. 

부산시는 10여 년 전부터 이 도로 구간을 지하도로로 전환하려고 했으나, 그동안 예산 확보가 안 되어 시작도 못했던 것이다. 지난 달(2024년) 3월 13일 부산시는 영화의 전당 앞 420m 지상도로 구간을 지하도로로 전환하는 공사를 착수하겠다고 공표했다. 

계획대로 될 경우, 2026년 말이면 영화의 전당 주변은 부산 최고의 문화공간으로 거듭날 것이다. 벌써부터 그날이 기다려진다.
