Songjeong Beach, the youthful paradise!

“Help me, save us!” a sudden scream echoed from the sea. 

Swiveling around, I noticed two girls in one-pieces, stomping their feet in waist-deep water, and beckoning to us.

“Help me!” One gestured towards the sea where waves were splashing violently.

“A woman's fallen into the water!” 

Instantly, my friend and I dashed towards the commotion. 

Clad only in shorts, we plunged into the sea. With my friend leading the charge, we embarked on a joint rescue operation. 

Supporting her by the shoulders, we hauled her onto the sandy beach. 

As she lay there, her face was pale and her breath was gone.

“Hey, stop staring! We need to perform CPR!”

“We don't know how! Please do it for us!”

Pushed from behind unexpectedly, I started CPR using mouth-to-mouth.

“Kyung-ja, wake up!” 

Her friends cried out, their voices choking with tears.

“One two three four!” 

I breathed into her, while they took turns performing chest compressions. 

Suddenly ‘Poof!’ She gasped for breath. 

Her friends quickly rolled her onto her side and gave her firm back pats. 

“Blech!” 

She vomited, coughing violently. Miraculously, she survived due to the CPR. 

Cheers and applause erupted around us. Onlookers had gathered, forming a human screen. 

We high-fived, grinning broadly, and jumped to our feet.

“Hey, wake up, buddy!” 

I was abruptly slapped awake. 

I was actually in a tent, with the slapper being my tentmate. 

Oh no! It was all a dream.

Whenever I think of Songjeong Beach, I think of the girl I saved in my dreams. Songjeong Beach remains a paradise for the young at heart. 

Even if you're over 50, head to Songjeong Beach. 

Under a parasol, chant a mantra on Songjeong Beach.

“Suri Suri Masuri~” Let's travel back to our 20s, yap!

송정해수욕장, 청춘의 파라다이스!

"사람살려~ 사람살려~"

갑자기 바다 쪽에서 비명소리가 들렸다. 소리나는 쪽을 돌아보니, 원피스 차림의 아가씨 둘이 발을 동동 구르고 있었다. 그녀들은 허리까지 오는 바닷물 속에 서서 손짓으로 우리를 부르는 게 아닌가? 

"어서요! 어서 구해주세요!" 그러면서 연신 바다 쪽을 손으로 가리켰다. 20미터 가량 떨어진 바다 속에서 물보라가 심하게 튀고 있었다.

 "사람이 물에 빠졌다!"

친구와 나는 반사적으로 그곳으로 달려갔다. 우리 둘은 반바지만 입은 채로 바다 속으로 뛰어들었다. 

물개 친구가 앞장 서고, 내가 뒤따라 갔다. 친구랑 둘이서 합동작전으로 극적으로 그녀를 구했다. 

  둘이서 그녀의 양어깨를 부축하여 백사장까지 끌고 나왔다. 백사장에 눕혀 놓은 그녀는 얼굴이 창백했고 숨도 쉬지 않았다. 

"이봐요! 뭘 보고만 있어요? 빨리 인공호흡을 해야지!"

"우린 어떡하는지 몰라요! 제발 대신 좀 해주세요!" 

엉겁결에 내가 등떠밀려  '마우스 투 마우스'로 인공호흡을 시작했다. 

"경자야, 경자야! 정신 차려!"

옆에 있던 그녀 친구들은 울먹이는 목소리로 외쳤다.

"하나! 둘! 셋! 넷!" 

나는 반복적으로 숨을 불어넣고, 그녀 친구는 그녀의 가슴을 반복적으로 눌렀다 놓았다.

갑자기  '푸우!' 하고 그녀가 숨을 내뱉었다. 친구들이 그녀를 비스듬히 옆으로 굴려 등을 연달아 세게 두드렸다. "아푸!" 갑자기 그녀가 기침과 함께 구토를 했다. 인공호흡 덕분에 기적적으로 살아난 것이다.

 우와~ 하고 함성이 터졌고 박수소리도 진동했다.  우리 등 뒤로 구경꾼들이 병풍처럼 둘러싸고 있었다.

 엉겹결에 우리도 하이파이브를 하며 벌떡 일어섰다. 

"야! 친구야! 정신차려!"

갑자기 누군가 내 뺨을 때렸다. 정신을 차려보니 텐트 속이었고, 뺨을 때린 녀석은 내 곁에 잠자던 친구였다. 아뿔싸! 꿈이었던 것이다.

 송정해수욕장만 생각하면 꿈에서 내가 구해준 그녀가 떠오른다. 송정비치는 예나 지금이나 청춘의 파라다이스다. 

비록 당신 나이가 50대 이상이라도 송정비치에 가보라. 송정비치  파라솔 아래에서 주문을 외쳐보라. 

수리수리마수리~ 20대 시절로 돌아가자 얍!
